Tec de Monterrey remains #4 university in Latin America: QS rankings

 For the fourth consecutive year, Tec de Monterrey has been ranked the #4 university in Latin America and #1 in Mexico, according to the latest regional ranking by international evaluation firm Quacquarelli Symonds.

The Tec is also ranked #2 among private universities in Latin America in the 2025 QS World University Rankings: Latin America and The Caribbean.

Tec has maintained its position among the 63 Mexican universities ranked for the sixth consecutive year.

The Tec’s three best-rated indicators for achieving this position are: Employer Reputation, Academic Reputation, and Citations per Paper.

The Employer Reputation indicator continues to be the highest rated for the institution in these rankings, placing the Tec at #4 in Latin America and representing 20% of its score.

“Reaffirming our position in the 2025 QS World University Rankings: Latin America and The Caribbean reflects our commitment to being a university focused on excellence,” said Feniosky Peña-Mora, Executive Vice President of Research at the Tec.

“We’re proud of the efforts of the Tec community to continue creating knowledge and developing innovative solutions that transform lives,” he added.

This year, 14 new universities were added to the rankings, bringing the total number of participating institutions to 437, of which 63 are Mexican.

Ranking indicators

These rankings evaluate 8 indicators, on which the Tec achieved a total score of 95.9 points this year, compared to 95.4 points last year.

The 8 evaluation indicators, each with different weightings, are:

• Academic Reputation (30%)
• Employer Reputation (20%)
• Citations per Paper (10%)
• Web Impact (5%)
• Faculty-Student Ratio (10%)
• Staff with PhDs (10%)
• Papers per Faculty (5%)
• International Research Network (10%)

The Tec’s strengths

The Tec was ranked highest on the Employer Reputation indicator, coming in 4th place this year and moving up one place compared to last year.

Other indicators on which Tec de Monterrey stood out are:

• Citations per Paper: Tec de Monterrey is in 5th place, moving up six places compared to last year.
• Academic Reputation: The institution maintained 10th place on this indicator, with a score of 99.1.
• International Research Network: Tec de Monterrey ranks 16th.
• Web Impact: The institution is ranked 22nd.
• Faculty-Student Ratio: Tec de Monterrey remains in 34th place.
• Staff with PhDs: Tec is ranked 88th.
• Papers per Faculty: The institution rose nine places on this indicator, occupying 152nd place compared to 161st place last year.
