Tecnológico de Monterrey is university #187 in the world, according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2026

In these rankings, the Tec is the #2 university in Mexico. Among private universities, it is #1 in the country and #29 in the world.

These rankings consist of 9 indicators. In this edition, the Tec is best positioned on the following indicators: Employment Outcomes (#52 in the world), Employer Reputation (#55 in the world), and Academic Reputation (#136 in the world).

The 2026 edition of the rankings evaluated over 8,467 higher education institutions from 106 countries, 49% more institutions than the previous year, from which 1,501 universities entered the rankings. 

22 universities from Mexico appeared on the 2026 rankings, 10 fewer institutions than last year.

 

  

Tec among the top 200 universities in the world 

David Garza, Executive President of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Education Group, recognized the efforts of the Tec community.

“We recognize those professors, researchers, students, and employees whose efforts and dedication are key to continuing to strengthen the academic excellence, research, and importance of our institution, which enables us to ratify our position among the top 200 universities in the world.”

“As we head toward 2030, we want to strengthen the global prestige of Tecnológico de Monterrey to attract the best talent. We’ve defined research as one of our strategic priorities because we see this as highly valuable for an academic institution of excellence and we’re motivated by the possibility of the Tec having a greater impact on society through it,” he added.

Juan Pablo Murra, Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey, mentioned its commitment to continue working on education of excellence, applied research, and social impact projects that transform the lives of people and communities. 

“Being among the group of 200 leading universities in the world is possible thanks to the talent and leadership of our faculty, researchers, students, and academic and administrative teams, who are driving solutions that transform reality and reaffirm the institution’s goal of preparing leaders who are capable of tackling the major challenges of our times,” said Murra.

Feniosky Peña-Mora, Executive Vice President of Research and Dean of the School of Engineering and Sciences, highlighted that Tec de Monterrey’s presence in the top 200 of the QS World University Rankings 2026 reflects sustained progress on its institutional strategy in science, technology, and innovation. 

“With over 1,100 researchers across 6 Schools, 3 Institutes, and 6 Research Centers, we’re generating knowledge that affects public policy, industrial development, and social wellbeing. This recognition consolidates the Tec as a key stakeholder in the global research ecosystem and making an impact from Latin America,” said Peña.

The indicators on which the Tec was best placed in this edition are: Employment Outcomes, Employer Reputation, and Academic Reputation.

Evaluation criteria of the rankings 

These are some of the most important university rankings in the world owing to their method and the volume of information processed to prepare them. 

British evaluation firm QS included the following indicators with their respective weightings in this twenty-second edition: 

  • Academic Reputation (30%) 

  • Citations per Faculty (20%)

  • Employer Reputation (15%) 

  • Employment Outcomes (5%) 

  • Faculty/Student Ratio (10%) 

  • International Faculty (5%) 

  • International Students (5%) 

  • International Research Network (5%) 

  • Sustainability (5%) 

 

The Tec’s strengths 

The institution’s strongest indicators in this edition of the rankings were:

  • Employment Outcomes 

On this criterion of the rankings, the Tec is in 52nd place in the world. 

  • Employer Reputation 

This is Tec de Monterrey’s best score, placing it at 55th place in the world. 

  • Academic Reputation 

In the category of Academic Reputation, the institution was ranked 136th in the world.

  • The other indicators 

Here’s how Tec de Monterrey stands in the other indicators for these rankings: 

  • Faculty/Student Ratio: 236th place 

  • Sustainability: 262nd 

  • International Faculty: 658th place 

  • International Research Network: 451st place 

  • International Students: 758th
