Tec first place in Latin America in 2022 employability ranking

Tecnológico de Monterrey has been ranked first in Mexico and Latin America by the 2022 Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (GEURS) ranking.

The Tec also entered the top 250 worldwide, ranking 78th out of 1,000 universities. 

This ranking is prepared by Emerging, a French Human Resources consulting company, and published by Times Higher Education (THE), a renowned global education magazine.

GEURS has been published for 12 years and is generated by surveying employment managers at international companies in 24 countries.

This ranking measures Tec graduates’ skills and provides a guarantee for students and parents, said Neil Hernández Gress, Associate Vice-Rector for Research at the Tec.

Why measure employability? 

According to GEURS, employability is an essential criterion because of changes and transformations within the corporate market.

“Students and parents want to know whether the costs of college will lead to positive outcomes on the career ladder,” said Hernandez.

Furthermore, it’s a tool which allows universities to refine their syllabuses in order to keep their graduates competitive in a changing world.

The 2022 ranking reveals the 250 universities which are adapting better and faster to evolutions within the corporate market.

Tec de Monterrey has been ranked first in Mexico and first in Latin America for the last four years.

“Staying in first place in Latin America reveals the skills our graduates develop in areas such as internationalization and academic excellence,” said Hernández.

For the Tec, it also represents its commitment to shaping new generations of well-trained university graduates who can face professional, social, and economic challenges.

“These external rankings provide a guarantee for both students and parents,” he added.

However, they also imply challenges for the Tec, such as monitoring things which can be improved, which changes require research, and developing student skills, while also helping them engage with society.

“For teachers, it’s an indicator for innovation in education that enables students to keep up with professional challenges,” he shared.

Digital skills: the most outstanding feature in 2022

This year’s GEURS survey highlighted that more and more employers are looking for graduates with both strong digital literacy skills and subject matter specialization.

Other important concepts this year include academic excellence, specialization, soft skills, and the ability to work as a team, says Neil Hernández.

“Research by Emerging has always shown that reputation, academic excellence, and employability are the three fundamental factors by which employers evaluate universities,” says GEURS.

The ranking was carried out online between August 16, 2022, and September 9, 2022, and the results were published on November 23, 2022.

“These external rankings provide a guarantee for both students and parents.”
