Sala Tec is located in one of the rooms of the house owned by Eugenio Garza Sada, who founded the institution.
To mark its 80th anniversary celebrations, authorities from Tecnológico de Monterrey and the Eugenio Garza Sada Center have opened Sala Tec, an interactive space that tells the history of the institution.
The room contains interactive screens that show different milestones in the Tec’s history, historical artifacts, and a hologram-style presenter who welcomes visitors.
It is located at the House of Humanist Leadership, the museum section of the Eugenio Garza Sada Center in the building where Tec founder Don Eugenio and his children lived in the Obispado neighborhood of Monterrey, Nuevo León.
“We are commemorating the opening of this room in a very important venue for the city, for the Tec, for Mexico, and for the world, because the leadership of Don Eugenio Garza Sada crossed borders,” said David Garza, Rector and Executive President of Tec de Monterrey, at the opening.
“The Tec was undoubtedly a reflection of Don Eugenio’s personality, one that demonstrated precisely this form of humanist leadership,” said Federico Garza Santos, Chairman of the Board at the Eugenio Garza Sada Center.
Sala Tec: Innovation and history that represent the Tec
Like a ninth child. That is how Don Eugenio Garza Sada defined Tec de Monterrey because of the affection and love he held for the institution he founded in 1943 along with other business owners and leaders.
In an interview with Tec news site CONECTA, Federico Garza Santos, Chairman of the Board at the Eugenio Garza Sada Center, shared what he remembers of the time.
“Don Eugenio believed in the freedom of entrepreneurship and of the individual, and that the best way to achieve that was through education,” he explains.
Beatriz Palacios, Director of Educational Innovation and Digital Learning at Tec de Monterrey, who was one of those who organized the content of the room, shares what they sought to reflect.
“What we were looking for was a space which not only reflects the humanist core of the Tec, the social part and what is being done in that field, but also its innovation.
“Right now, it’s based on milestones that occurred in the last 80 years. It’s been a joint effort that enabled us to acquire the most important artifacts we’re displaying in the room today,” she said.
The room includes:
- An interactive display explaining the most important events that happened in each of the Tec’s 8 decades
- An interactive explanation of the mural on the Rector’s Building at the Tec
- Hologram effect screen with explanations from professors and Tec students
- An interactive explanation of Tec de Monterrey’s founding principles
- Objects of historical value
“What we want to do is incorporate more and more technological resources, not to demonstrate their technological prowess, but rather to help us present things in a better way.
“Right now, we’ve started with interactive elements such as the video that explains the mural, the Tec timeline, and the hologram effect.
“We’ll incorporate more of these innovations so they can accompany some of the things that we want to present about the Tec,” Palacios added.

Eugenio Garza Sada Center tours
The new Sala Tec and a new room for previously unshown photographs of Don Eugenio Garza Sada can be seen at the Eugenio Garza Sada Center, which is open to the public from Thursday to Sunday between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
