The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), listed in numerous rankings as the number 1 university in the world, included Tecnológico de Monterrey as one of the world’s emerging leaders for engineering.

In its survey, entitled “The global state of the art in engineering education”, the Institute presented the universities that it predicts will be at the “cutting edge of engineering education worldwide in the decades to come.”

The report, based on interviews with 178 experts in engineering education programs who identified 89 institutions from 27 countries, provides an overview of education in this sector around the world, highlighting current leaders and those to come.

This report places Olin College, MIT itself, Standford, Purdue, and Cambridge among the current leaders in engineering.

Emerging leaders include SUTD from Singapore, Olin College once more, UCL from Great Britain, and PUC from Chile. The report mentions Tec de Monterrey in the list.

I’m very proud and satisfied to see us listed among the top universities providing the state of the art in engineering education,” said Manuel Zertuche, Dean of the Tec’s School of Engineering and Sciences in an interview.

This is a result of the institution’s process of constant change that we’ve followed as we transform our educational model, making it more relevant to the demands of a more complex society that’s undergoing continuous change,” he added.

The Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey, David Garza, was one of the experts interviewed for the report and is one of the chief architects of the institution’s Tec 21 Educational Model.

This model is important due to four elements: challenge-based learning, flexibility in syllabuses and experiencing knowledge, inspiring teachers who support and have a close connection with students, and memorable university experiences during the learning process.

This is the pivot, the lever that sets us apart worldwide, as one of the institutions proposing a new process, a new educational model, with greater dedication and energy,” said Zertuche on the subject.

Tecnológico de Monterrey stands out as the number 1 university in Latin America in the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2018, in the category of Engineering - Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing.
