Monterrey Rams offensive lineman Héctor Zepeda has been selected to participate in this year’s NFL International Player Pathway Program.

The Master of Finance student at the Tec’s Monterrey campus is one of 13 players from 9 countries that the NFL announced would take part in the camp at which they can be selected by professional teams for next season.

The NFL is turning to Mexico more and more. The IPP can be the key to opening the door to the NFL,” said the 24-year-old, who hails from Ensenada, Baja California.

 

 

Héctor was part of the Combine Mexico 2021 event organized by the NFL in which 10 Mexican and 3 Brazilian players participated at Banorte Stadium: Home of the Rams, in October 2021.

As a result of the event, the Ram player was selected for the international program alongside Brazilian Leandro Santos.

It’s an opportunity that you only get once, and you should enjoy it when get to participate,” Zepeda said about the camp.

Four Rams on the international program

Zepeda is the fourth Monterrey Rams player selected for the International Player Pathway Program.

The first was Máximo González, selected in 2019. 

Isaac Alarcón, who attended in 2020, is now one of the Dallas Cowboys. Last year’s participant, Alfredo Gutiérrez, is on the San Francisco 49ers practice team.

All three are offensive linemen and were CONADEIP Premier Conference champions with the Rams in 2019.

Zepeda (1.95 meters) played for the Monterrey Rams in last year’s ONEFA season and will report to the camp in the next few days.

Players attending the international program come from countries such as France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Latvia, Mexico, and Brazil.

The International Player Pathway Program was created in 2017 with the aim of giving elite international athletes the opportunity to compete at NFL level, and to be selected by a team from the league.
