Tec cheerleaders win first places at international competition

The members of the Tec’s Mexico City campus cheerleading team have returned home from the University World Cup Cheerleading Championships with first places in different categories.

During the university-level competition, they came second in the Premiere COED category, third in the COED Game Day category, and sixth in the All-Girl category.

In addition, when representing Mexico in the international competition, they came second in the Premiere Large COED category, third in the COED Game Day category, and sixth overall in Cheer & Dance.

Cristina Pacheco, coach of the Mexico City campus team, shared a little more about the competitions:

“We were the first Mexican team to participate in the Game Day category, which presents everything that relates to an American football or basketball game day; we came third there.”

This was a preparation competition for the cheerleaders; they will also compete at the CONADEIP National Championship in Guadalajara in March.

“We’re very happy and proud of the results we achieved on returning to this competition; we hadn’t participated since 2020,” concluded coach Pacheco.

“We were the first Mexican team to participate in the Game Day category, which presents everything that relates to an American football or basketball game day; we came third there.”

The team behind the cheer

25 students from Mexico City participated: 22 are undergraduates and 3 are from PrepaTec. This was the eighth time that the campus team had participated in the competition.

The athletes had been preparing for the competition since the start of last semester.

This year’s University World Cup Cheerleading Championships took place in Orlando, Florida, from January 13 to 15, 2023.
