Ever since he was 5 years old, sports have been part of Enrique Tejada’s life. His aunt took him to a football team, which is where he started off down the path that led him from player to coach at Borregos Laguna.
“I remember my aunt taking me to that team and telling me it was a demanding sport, but that if I liked it, I could play.
And that was it. I liked it from the beginning, and I didn’t stop until I had to stop playing due to injury,” he said.
‘Pichu,’ as he’s known at Tec de Monterrey’s Laguna campus and among the Laguna sports community, was a player in the Pee Wee, Junior, Youth, and Intermediate categories until becoming flag football and football coach.
“My experience as a player helped me to understand the game and how to teach my players”.
From the field to the scrimmage at Borregos Laguna
Enrique Tejada played both offensive and defensive positions throughout his athletic career.
In the Youth category, he managed to win championships and was selected as one of the most valuable players (MVPs).
In Intermediate, he also won a championship with the Tec de Monterrey team; his talent led him to receive invitations from other institutions, but he decided to continue competing in regional leagues.
“My experience as a player helped me to understand the game and how to teach my players,” said ‘Pichu.’

However, injuries began accumulating and his participation on the gridiron had to end.
Despite this, his passion for football remained, and he decided to become a football and flag football coach.
His first experience began with Jaguares, an American football team in La Laguna, where he learned the basics of his new role.
Over time, he began to move up to the higher categories until becoming defensive backs coach of the Borregos Laguna youth team and head coach of the Tec de Monterrey Laguna campus flag football team.
“I try to instill good habits and commitment in my players so they can be part of the team”.
Football and flag football coach Pichu’s philosophy
Enrique Tejada shared that his philosophy and approach for each one of the players under his charge is discipline and order.
“I try to instill good habits and commitment so they can be part of the team… and (also) have a winning mentality,”he said.
From that viewpoint, he works with tools and techniques to help each player develop good habits, discipline, and commitment both on and off the field.
With this in mind, ‘Pichu’ aims to continue training and updating strategies so that his student-athletes continue to grow.
