The Santa Fe Borregos women’s flag football team has won the Top Flight (Primera Fuerza) of the 2025 CONADEIP (National Student Sports Commission for Private Institutions) National Championship without losing a single game.

With this triumph, the Tec Santa Fe campus team became a two-time champion of the tournament and is currently the winningest team in its history.

“We put everything into our preparation, we sweated, laughed, cried, and above all, really wanted it,” said team quarterback Ximena Cuate when asked about the championship.

Victoria Chavez, Santa Fe Borregos wide receiver and cornerback, was also named the competition’s MVP.

The Top Flight of the National Flag Football Championship was held on April 2-4 in the city of Querétaro in Mexico.

The inclusion of flag football in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games has given the Santa Fe Borregos a new kind of motivation. As far as they are concerned, winning two CONADEIP championships is an important step towards winning a place representing Mexico in the games.

“My long-term goal is to represent Mexico and the Tec at the Olympic Games. That’s the dream and I’m going to work hard every day to make it come true,” asserts Angela Funes, safety and cornerback.

Moreover, the players believe that flag football has been their platform to develop not only as athletes, but also as students and professionals.

Flag football gave me the opportunity to study for a university degree. More to the point, I have also been able to build up my resilience, discipline, and my ability to cope with stressful situations,” explains Alessandra Ángeles, who is studying for a bachelor’s degree in public accounting and finance.

According to Coach Petrone, the Santa Fe Borregos women’s flag football team will continue to work towards new success on and off the field.

“We’ll be getting together at 6 in the morning to train and continue to develop female athletes and professionals who will become successful leaders,” concludes Andrea Petrone.
