Tec de Monterrey has launched the campaign “Unidos Podemos“ (United We Can) to help reduce the effects caused by the pandemic due to COVID-19.

This seeks chiefly to support health and education initiatives. 2 funds were set up from donations raised:

  • Unidos por tu Salud (United for your Health): To cover health needs caused by the pandemic.
  • Unidos por tu Educación (United for your Education): To guarantee the academic continuity of those students who need it.

These funds were set up so that people could pull together to support the attention required by these circumstances.

According to Juan Pablo Murra, Vice President for Outreach and Development at the Tec, these are times when people and institutions should join forces.

This director said that as the Tec is an institution from society and for society, it is now calling for its entire community to take part in the initiative.

He said that this is: “To face up to these circumstances, as this is the only way we can go above and beyond as a society.”

“Mexico is facing challenging circumstances. However, we have an invaluable opportunity to set an example of innovation and collaboration,” he added.

Murra said that: “Depending on what each of us is able to do, we are working together to contribute towards mitigating the effects of the pandemic.”

He also explained that we can: “Set an example of solidarity, compassion, and generosity... We’re making an appeal for the common good.”

Juan Pablo said that the aim of this campaign is for the Tec to face up to this ordeal while seeking to bring its community closer together, to set an example of resilience and inspiration.

HEALTH FUND

Funds raised for Unidos por tu Salud will pay for people’s health needs caused by COVID-19 and offer the health care that the community needs.

The funds will be spent on 4 initiatives:

  • Hospital infrastructure. Creation and improvement of special facilities in TecSalud hospitals and medical centers
  • Diagnosis and treatment. A fund for preventing, diagnosing, and treating people who need medical support
  • Ensuring treatment for people infected with COVID-19. Support for health workers with protection for high-risk situations, extraordinary financial support, training, specialized equipment, and special supplies.
  • Research. Research projects focused on preventing, diagnosing, treating, and curing COVID-19.

Some of the proposals for the latter include experimenting on infected patients with the use of plasma from those who have already recovered from this disease.

They also include the development of ventilators that meet standards of quality at an affordable price.

FUND FOR EDUCATION

The Unidos por la Educación fund will ensure the academic continuity of those students at the institution who need it.

This fund will give people the confidence that resources will be set aside for people facing a financial situation of extreme hardship during the crisis.

The health emergency caused by COVID-19 requires collaboration, empathy, and solidarity from us all. You can go here to join this campaign.
