Tec de Monterrey and the University of Twente have signed an agreement to continue collaborating in three main areas: education, research, and knowledge transfer.
During an event held at the Cervantina Library, located in the Rector’s Building on the Monterrey campus, both institutions agreed to review activities and progress year by year.
David Garza, Rector and Executive President of the Tec, welcomed the representatives of the university located in Enschede, the Netherlands.
“I’m very happy that this relationship with the University of Twente has evolved and that we can now work alongside each other, not only for the teaching-learning process but also for research activities,” he said.
The Tec rector also talked about the areas in which both institutions will work and the trust that exists in the collaboration.
“Sustainability and medicine are some of the areas in which we share a common interest.
“We also have some agreements and programs associated with Ph.D. students. I think that’s another example of the trust between our two institutions,” he added.
Tom Veldkamp, Rector of the University of Twente, said that both institutions constantly aim to impact their communities, countries, and the rest of the world.
“Our long history together means we’re among friends, colleagues, and even family. We’ve also learned a lot from you; you’re an example to follow and you should be proud of it.
“What we also have in common is that we make an effort to make an impact; we want to develop businesses that impact society,” he said.
Education, research, and knowledge transfer: the pillars of the agreement
The two institutions have the same vision for 2030, in which they will work on innovation, inclusion, and global citizenship to contribute to a fair, sustainable and digital society by forming an entrepreneurial, inclusive, and open ecosystem.
Activities are being planned for the coming years between the two institutions in three main areas: education, research, and knowledge transfer.
1. Education
Nanotechnology is one of the educational activities in which they aim to collaborate with the people involved to improve educational research.
A nanotechnology course is planned for students at the University of Twente and there will be joint educational research publications through a mobility agreement.
In addition, the aim is to work together to develop training programs for professors in artificial intelligence.
Both institutions will exchange experiences for challenge-based learning and professor training.

2. Research
In research, the dual Ph.D. agreement between the University of Twente and the Tec de Monterrey was extended until 2027, in which two new doctoral students per year are expected.
The two universities aim to publish joint research in each of the impact areas at least five times per year.
TecSalud and the Positive Clinical Psychology & Technology research group will continue to work on wellness by reducing anxiety and depression.
“Research is based on mutual trust and respect, and that’s what I feel when I’m here.
“I think there are a lot of opportunities for us to make this work,” Veldkamp said.
3. Knowledge transfer
Initiatives planned for the coming years include:
- First Technology Transfer Summit: this will focus on identifying the most relevant problems, aligned with the strategies of both partner universities.
- Second Technology Transfer Summit: this will resolve five proposals from the first summit.
- Establishment of a global consortium for entrepreneurial activities.
