A Tec de Monterrey project was one of 20 winners selected from more than 300 projects from companies around the world at the SAP Innovation Awards 2021.
Tecnológico de Monterrey won first place in the Higher Education and Research category of the Innovation Awards organized by SAP, the market leader in business software.
The Tec was one of 20 prize winners selected from more than 300 entrants from around the world, who used digital technology solutions from SAP Digital Enterprise.
Trailblazing Remote Learning and Well-Being Support for Staff and Students During the Pandemic was the winning project for this year’s award. What’s more, the Tec was the only Mexican university given a prize at the awards.
“This is proof of the ability of an organization like ours, which is so focused on the use of technology, to set up this kind of operation in such a short time,” said José Juan Carranza, Director of the Projects and Processes Portfolio at the Tec.
A project to enable online classes
The award-winning project used the SAP platform to enable online programs for teachers, students, and staff during the pandemic.
Courses were designed on this platform to prepare professors to start online classes just one week after the Tec switched to a flexible online model.
“SAP is, fundamentally, a technology enabler, which allows us to connect processes,” Carranza explained.
Another SAP tool was used to survey students, professors, and parents. This made it possible to identify areas requiring support, be it academic, mental health, or even financial support, to name but a few.
Additionally, the Tec used a system called SAP Fiori to optimize arrivals on its different campuses and to prevent outbreaks of COVID-19 within its facilities, prioritizing the health of its community.
“The SAP platform and technologies allowed us to monitor and create these programs for the wellbeing of the Tec community,” explained Carranza.
He added that, although this project has been used extensively during the pandemic, the strategic partnership between the Tec and SAP has continued to grow.
“This project, as well as the tools it made use of, is something we’ve been working on for 8 years. The pandemic and our experiences throughout have prepared us to enter the unknown.
“Using technology to support students, the community, and staff during the pandemic, through support programs developed using this accumulation of information and applications, is one of the things that kept us going,” said Carranza.
This year’s awards
The SAP Innovation Awards recognize the achievements of forward-thinking companies and individuals who have used the latest SAP products and technologies to become smart businesses.
The winners were announced on April 14 and the awards ceremony will be held, virtually, on June 23.
This is the eighth time these awards have been given, with prize winners being selected by an international panel made up of experts and opinion makers.
SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing) is a technological platform providing better services for different areas in partner companies.
Founded in 1972, SAP is one of the market leaders in business application software, with around 400,000 partners worldwide.
