One female professor and three male professors were recognized at the 2024 National Teachers’ Meeting.

Tec de Monterrey has recognized the efforts of teachers with the 2024 Inspirational Teacher Award, considered the highest award given by the institution to its faculty.

This event took place during the National Teachers’ Meeting (RNP), in which four undergraduate and graduate professors from across the country were recognized.

“We’ve been at different graduations in the past few days, and we constantly see a sense of pride and gratitude in the faces of our students and their parents. In reality, it’s you, the teachers, that they’re thankful for.

“A university is only as good as its professors. We recognize everyone today, but in particular those with outstanding performance this year,” said David Garza, Rector and Executive President of the Tec.

2024 Inspirational Teachers

The 2024 Inspirational Teachers are:

  • Juan Gabino Díaz, from the Tampico campus. 
  • Paloma Barajas, from the Guadalajara campus.
  • Eduardo Aguiñaga, from EGADE Business School.
  • Emilio Clarke, from the Querétaro campus.

“There are colleagues who’ve been working at the Tec for decades, others who arrived more recently, some department chairs, others full-time professors, some researchers, and others who focus on innovation, but all of them have a passion and commitment to their students,” said Juan Pablo Murra, the Tec’s Rector for Higher Education.

Winners of the 2024 awards

 

- Juan Gabino Díaz

A professor in the School of Engineering and Sciences at the Tampico campus, Juan Gabino Díaz stands out for his leadership of the ULEAD project to develop nanosatellites in international collaboration with the Pontifical Xavierian University in Colombia.

In addition, he advises three Tec teams participating in the Ibero-American can-sized satellite competition and organized the regional nanosatellite competition, CanSat Competition 2023, for middle and high school students.

He was a speaker at the Japan-Latin American Workshop on Small Satellite Development and presenter of A Drone Grand Prix: Educational Robotics Competition Using Drones with First-Person View at the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Engineering Veracruz.

“It’s only fair to recognize the people who have supported me, starting with my leaders, my students for all their efforts, and my family, my daughters and my wife who give me a little bit of their time to let me dedicate myself to this, which is my great passion,” said the award winner.

- Paloma Barajas

Guadalajara campus School of Engineering and Science professor Paloma Barajas was recognized for designing a survey and an article on the perspective of biotechnology students regarding plastic pollution.

These publications were presented at the IEEE Global Education Engineering Conference.

She participated in the project Mapping Organic Waste Streams for Developing Sustainable Food and Waste Management Systems on Campus: Living Lab Perspective in the call for the 2023 Ruta Azul Challenge.

Professor Barajas has published research articles in Q1 and Q2 journals and is a member of the review committee of the 44th National Meeting of the Mexican Academy of Chemical Engineering Research and Teaching.

“This is all thanks to my parents, who have been my inspiration. It’s also thanks to my students and to the Tec for giving us the tools to develop and train students to be good citizens of the country,” said the professor.

- Eduardo Enrique Aguiñaga

Professor Eduardo Aguiñaga was recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award for EGADE professors in the 2022-2023 cycle. He was leader of the redesign of the full-time MBA and the Master’s in Business Management as well as gamification of the student experience in this program.

He is the author of the first e-Learning course on the Circular Economy made available to the community through the Conscious Enterprise Center, where he impacted more than 300 people.

Professor Aguiñaga has developed two book chapters on circular economy topics, has given talks and spoken on business and government panels, and has been director and advisor of doctoral theses at EGADE and UNAM.

“I didn’t expect this. I’m extremely grateful. I never thought I’d be a teacher, but life takes us on the path that’s necessary, and being a teacher has been transformative,” the professor said.

- Emilio Clarke

Among professor Emilio Clarke’s most outstanding achievements in the School of Engineering and Science is the design of gamification strategies in a virtual escape room where he impacted more than 275 students.

He designed the sustainable bioconstruction competition and participated in the academic publication entitledDesigning Learning Experiences on Climate Change for Undergraduate Students of Different Majors.

Professor Clarke also participated in the Carbon Markets and Youth, Climate Change, and Worldviews for a Sustainable World discussion forums

This was part of the BBVA national sustainability challenge, where his students were among the ten finalists.

2024 National Teachers’ Meeting

 

The National Teachers’ Meeting is the annual meeting of Tec de Monterrey’s Higher Education academic community with spaces for learning and institutional alignment, roundtable discussions, and moments of celebration.

This year, there were virtual talks held with the central theme of artificial intelligence for promoting human flourishing.

From July 2 to 4, teachers were encouraged to explore and learn how artificial intelligence is shaping a cultural change in which human flourishing must play a leading role.

 

Inspirational Teacher award for PrepaTec teachers

Two male teachers and one female teacher received the Inspirational Teacher award during PrepaTec’s 2024 National Meeting.

Ada Cecilia Berzosa from PrepaTec Santa Catarina was recognized for being project presenter at the International Conference on Educational Innovation.

She also designed high impact activities and projects in multicultural and international academic programs and was a speaker at the Annual STEM Education Conference, among other achievements.

David Alejandro Duarte from PrepaTec Sonora Norte, who received the award for being international runner-up in the National Geographic Slingshot challenge, published the scientific article The Race to Nuclear Supremacy: Classroom Games as Motivation.

He was an instructor of a basic programming workshop to more than 70 children and adolescents in a project called Labyrinths of Education.

Monica Maluy, from PrepaTec Saltillo, received the award for writing the first chapter of the edubook “How to Gamify Your Class,” an implementation of artificial intelligence tools to generate enriched visual presentations.

She participated in MUN as a faculty advisor and as part of the leadership team of the event and was also part of the Monterrey faculty committee that designed the academic experience Lekilaltik, Chiapas, in conjunction with the CIS in Chiapas.
