Tec de Monterrey has been selected by Forbes USA as one of the top 15 international universities for students from the United States.

This Mexican institution appears alongside universities such as Oxford (UK); Cambridge (UK); McGill University (Canada); Sciences Po (France); Bocconi University (Italy); Waseda University (Japan); and The University of Hong Kong (China).

The Tec is the only Latin American university on this list.

This publication highlighted the institution’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation, held since 1950, as well as its English-language courses and its academic programs in engineering, technology, and business, among other things.

The article featured 15 institutions spanning 12 countries and territories that were selected for their excellent international student programs, global experience, straightforward admissions processes, and ability to attract U.S. students interested in pursuing full degree programs abroad.

Courses in English for international students

Juan Pablo Murra, Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey, highlighted the experience offered to international students.

“We welcome young people from all over the world, offering programs taught entirely in English and a global experience from day one. We’re proud that the world looks to the Tec.

What’s more, we hope they find here a community of extraordinary talent, one that learns, questions, creates, and blazes new trails every day”.

For his part, David Garza, Executive President of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Education Group, said:

“Those of us within the Education Group are working to strengthen Tecnológico de Monterrey’s global prestige to attract the world’s best talent because we’re convinced of the transformative power of education.

“Being named one of Forbes USA’s top 15 international universities for U.S. students fills us with pride and motivates us to continue delivering our best to further strengthen our academic excellence, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global vision”.

Garza extended his congratulations to the Tec community:

“I congratulate our community for keeping our purpose alive: transforming the lives of people and communities through education”.

According to data from the Institute of International Education (IIE), Mexico, which only began reporting information to the organization in 2022, recorded the largest population of U.S. undergraduate students in 2025, with a total of 24,466 students, followed by the United Kingdom with 10,200 and Canada with 6,865.

Tec: A Global University

As part of its internationalization strategy, the institution runs the Faculty of Excellence initiative, which is aimed at attracting extraordinary, world-renowned professors with outstanding experience and revolutionary ideas to join the faculty at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

At an institutional level, Tec maintains research partnerships with over ten of the world’s top 200 institutions and universities, notably MIT, Harvard, UT Austin, and Arizona State University, while more than 50% of its scientific research is produced through international collaborations.

The institution’s leadership also has a global footprint: David Garza, Executive President of the Education Group, has served since May 2025 as the first Latin American Chair of Universitas 21 (U21), a global network of 29 universities spanning five continents.

Garza has also served on the boards of international academic organizations such as the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), as well as U21.

This year, Garza marked his third in-person appearance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. He was one of only 30 university presidents worldwide invited to attend, and the sole representative from Latin America.

The Tec is also a member of several other networks including the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), CINDA, La Tríada, and the Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC).

What’s more, in 2022, the Tec became the first international university to join the board of SACSCOC, the accrediting body that sets the quality standards for its member institutions.

Among its many advantages, this accreditation drives internationalization, enabling students, professors, and graduates to participate in academic exchanges, research stays, and joint collaborations between Mexican and international universities.

Finally, when it comes to student mobility, the institution holds academic partnerships with over 400 universities worldwide. Students from more than 70 countries travel to the Tec’s various campuses to pursue their studies.

The global impact of Tec graduates

Tec’s global footprint has been established through its graduates, as demonstrated by the following five examples:

1. Iván Espinosa, Nissan’s Global President and CEO

2. Lorenzo H. Zambrano (†), CEO of CEMEX, responsible for the company’s internationalization.

3. Javier Reyes, Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

4. Guillermo Amescua, included in The Ophthalmologist Power List 2026, which recognizes the world’s top 50 eye surgeons.

5. Héctor García Medina (†), professor and director of the Computer Systems Laboratory at Stanford University in California. He coordinated and provided academic guidance for the project that led to the creation of Google.

Impactful research

The Tec has established collaboration agreements with institutions conducting cutting-edge research around the world.

A key example is its partnership with the Ragon Institute of Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard.

This alliance combines the expertise of top U.S. research institutions with the Tec’s innovation capabilities, aiming to drive scientific discoveries across Latin America.

Another key example is the Tec’s partnership with the University of Texas at Austin, which has driven research projects focused on diseases affecting the Latino population.
