David Garza among Mexico’s 300 most influential leaders

“We’re living through a change of era.” This is how David Garza summarizes the current moment for society and the challenge faced today by those driven to transform their environment.

In that context, the Executive President of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Education Group has been listed among the 300 most influential leaders in Mexico for the seventh consecutive year.

The list, published by magazine Líderes Mexicanos, recognizes business owners, public officials, scientists, and organizational leaders who make an impact beyond their sector.

In its profile of Garza, Líderes Mexicanos highlights his promotion of educational innovation and his work strengthening ties between academia, business, and society, as well as his support for solutions to challenges intechnology, health, sustainability, and artificial intelligence.

The publication adds that, amid rapid change, Tecnológico de Monterrey has established itself as a regional leader in higher education and innovation.

According to Garza, appearing on the list once more is not just a personal honor but a reflection of the work carried outby the community making up the Education Group.

“At the end of the day, this is recognition for the institution. These lists are related to the impact organizations are making and those who belong to them,” he said.

The recognition, he added, also implies a responsibility: to continue learning, to question existing knowledge, and to recognize what still needs to be done.

How does David Garza view leadership?

Garza defines his leadership style through two complementary ideas: humility and ambition.

Humility, he explained, is reflected in the willingness to listen, learn from others, and recognize that you don’t have all the answers.

Ambition, on the other hand, makes sense when it serves a purpose. In his case, he explained, it consists of driving the impact of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Education Group to transform people’s lives and communities through education.

But that vision, he said, is only possible when leadership is exercised through people.

“As a leader, the most important thing is not what you accomplish alone but what your team is capable of accomplishing,” he stressed.

This means surrounding yourself with people whose talents and abilities complement your own, and who share the same institutional purpose.

The list of Mexico’s 300 most influential leaders recognizes those who impact the country’s development. For Garza, exercising leadership today means navigating different challenges to those from just a few years ago.

The president of the Education Group believes that society is going through a “change of era” marked by transformations that are converging and advancing at a rapid pace.

Among them, he mentioned advances in artificial intelligence and the impact they’re already having (and will continue to have) on society, as well as geopolitical, environmental, and social changes.

In light of this scenario, he said that one of the biggest challenges for educational institutions is to redefine their role and rapidly adapt to a constantly evolving environment.
