Standing out are the Guadalajara campus, ranked first; the Mexico City campus, ranked fourth; and the Monterrey campus, ranked fifth, with graduates from all three campuses achieving the highest scores.
Tec de Monterrey’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences (EMCS) ranked third out of the top five in the overall average score on the National Exam for Medical Residency Applicants (ENARM), in which two out of every three graduates are selected.
ENARM is an annual exam organized by the Interinstitutional Commission for the Training of Health Personnel (CIFRHS), which assesses the general medical knowledge of the physicians taking the exam.
The three EMCS campuses that were recognized are: Guadalajara, in first place; Mexico City, in fourth place; and Monterrey, in fifth place, whose graduates achieved the highest scores on the exam.
According to figures from the 2025 ENARM, 44,911 applicants from across the country took the exam, of whom 15,779 were selected.
65.1% of the medical students from the Guadalajara campus were selected, while 58.2% were selected from the Mexico City and Monterrey campuses.
Six out of every ten Tec medical school graduates are selected
According to the ENARM Comparative Report 2021–2025, EMCS has the highest cumulative admission rate, at 66.6%, as well as the highest average score on the placement exams, compared to seven other universities.
During that same period, 1,349 graduates from the EMCS School of Medicine took the exam, and 898 were accepted on a medical residency program.
According to Luis Herrera Montalvo, National Dean of the EMCS, these results represent external validation of the academic and clinical quality of the education students receive.
“This result confirms that our educational model trains professionals with the skill to meet the country’s most demanding standards; it reflects years of dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence,” he said.
What’s behind these results?
According to Herrera, the graduates’ performance results from an educational model that combines scientific knowledge, early clinical experience, advanced simulation, challenge-based learning, and close guidance from professors and mentors.
What’s more, students complete more than 3,000 hours of clinical rotations during the final years of their degree program, which allows them to strengthen their skills in medical reasoning, decision-making, and people-centered care.

Although performance on ENARM depends on many factors, Herrera highlights that students with the highest scores tend to share certain characteristics.
“Overall, we see students who demonstrate strong academic discipline, organizational skills, perseverance, and good study habits.
“What also stands out is their intellectual curiosity, their clinical analysis skill, and their willingness to accept criticism and continuously improve,” he said.
Besides their academic performance, the dean pointed out that they tend to be young people who are committed to their professional training and have a clear calling to serve others.
“Beyond their individual talent, they tend to be students who are committed to their education and have a clear calling to serve others,” he said.
A message for future doctors
Herrera encouraged those aspiring to study medicine to make the most of every academic and clinical experience as an opportunity for their professional development.
“Preparation for this exam is not limited to the months leading up to the test but rather takes place throughout one’s entire career.
“Stay disciplined, keep your curiosity to learn, and remain committed to your patients,” he said.
He also highlighted that the graduates’ achievements reflect the importance of providing a well-rounded education from the very beginning of their studies.

The National Medical Residency Admission Exam (ENARM for its initials in Spanish) is the test used by healthcare institutions in Mexico to select physicians who will be admitted to residency programs.
Every year, thousands of medical school graduates take this exam to qualify for a residency position in specialties such as surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, internal medicine, and others.
Due to its high level of difficulty and the limited number of available spots, ENARM is considered one of the most competitive selection processes for healthcare professionals in the country.
